  • Description: "Once Upon A Time" is an animated exploration of the unspoken and fragmented emotions that accompany the pivotal transition from childhood to adulthood. Drawing inspiration from Eastern philosophy’s concept of “clarity” as a fluid, open, and alive field, the animation creates a space where perception is stripped of distraction and illusion, inviting viewers into a quiet, immersive experience. The phrase “once upon a time,” often associated with the enchanting beginnings of fairy tales, is reimagined here as a gateway to a narrative that intertwines the magical innocence of childhood with the sobering realities of growing up. Informed by the symbolic reference of Buddha’s hand—a gesture representing enlightenment, harmony, and subtlety—the work bridges this spiritual emblem with the notion of clarity as a permeable inner terrain. Just as the Buddha’s hand signifies a state of mindful presence, the animation reflects the idea that clarity emerges not as sharp certainty, but as a gentle resonance that shifts and expands with awareness. The shifting tones—from the enchanting to the melancholic—mirror the emotional and psychological landscapes of maturation, where the extraordinary collides with the mundane. Through layered visuals and narrative, the piece invites reflection on unvoiced fears, hopes, and fragmented memories that shape personal growth. The passage of time, a central theme in the work, is portrayed as both a source of enchantment and a catalyst for introspection. The animation aligns with the exhibition’s philosophy: a pause not to escape, but to attune—to feel the subtle emergence of clarity amidst emotional turbulence, where the fog begins to lift and understanding quietly takes form. In this way, "Once Upon A Time" becomes a meditation on the fluidity of clarity, where the journey from childhood to adulthood is not a linear path but a field of sensations, memories, and emotions that resonate with the viewer’s own experiences. The Buddha’s hand serves as a guiding symbol, reminding us that clarity is not a destination but a process of attunement, a gentle unfolding of awareness in the midst of life’s noise and distortion.
